Manuscript pre-submission checklist


Before submitting the manuscript please check the following to make sure that the manuscript is properly formatted and all files are being submitted.

Files to submit:

  • Cover Letter
  • Title Page and Manuscript Text File (only text, no images/figures/photos included)
  • Images/figures

Please submit each document or image as a separate file. Do not include images in the text file.


Checklist for file preparation


COVER LETTER


Include the following in the Cover Letter:

  • Type of manuscript
  • Manuscript title
  • Author statements (Please see instructions to authors)
  • Signed by corresponding author (sign the form in ink and scan as image or pdf)
  • Name of all authors
  • Highest academic degrees
  • Author affiliations
  • Email ID's of all authors
  • Corresponding author's contact details including address, phone number, email, fax number

TITLE PAGE AND MANUSCRIPT TEXT FILE

  • Provide SINGLE DOCUMENT which includes the Title Page and Manuscript Text. Do not include illustrations in this file
  • Includes, in order: Title page, Abstract, Text body, References, Tables and Figure legends
  • Manuscript should be double-spaced throughout.
  • There should be a 2.5 cm margin on all four sides
  • Pages numbered consecutively, starting from the title page

1. Title Page (1st page)

  • Category of manuscript
  • Title of manuscript
  • Headings in title case (not all CAPITALS)
  • First name and surname of all authors
  • Highest Academic degrees
  • Affiliations of all authors (department, institution, city, state, country)
  • Name of corresponding author with contact address, contact phone number, email and fax number
  • Short running title (less than 40 characters)
  • Name of guarantor of submission (if other than the corresponding author) with contact address, contact phone number, email and fax number

2. Summary (Optional)

  • This section is optional
  • Start on a separate page
  • Recommended world limit:
    • Review articles - 800 words (2 pages)
    • Original Articles - 800 words (2 pages)
    • Short Reports - 800 words (2 pages)
    • Rapid Communication - 800 words (2 pages)
    • Case Series - 400 words (1 pages)
    • Case Reports - 400 words (1 pages)
    • Clinical Images - "Summary" not required
    • Letter to the Editors - "Summary" not required"
  • Use simple, non-technical language
  • Do not repeat or copy text verbatim from the main text of your manuscript
  • Do not give references

3. Abstract page

  • Start on a separate page
  • 250-word or less
  • Include full title of the manuscript followed by abstract text
  • Structure the abstract as given below:
  • Review Article - Unstructured abstract
  • Original Articles - Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusion
  • Short Reports - Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusion
  • Rapid Communication - Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusion
  • Case Series - Introduction, Case Series, Conclusion
  • Case Reports - Introduction, Case Report, Conclusion
  • Clinical Images - Abstract not required
  • Letters to the Editors - Abstract not required
  • Three to five key words

4. Manuscript body text

  • Manuscript written uniformly in American English or British English
  • Full term for each abbreviation mentioned at its first use
  • Numerals from 1 to 10 spelt out
  • Numerals at the beginning of the sentence spelt out
  • Check the manuscript for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors
  • If a brand name is cited, supply the manufacturer's name and address (city and state/country)

5. References

  • References mentioned in text in order of appearance
  • Reference number given after author name or if no author name then before the closing punctuation mark
  • References in square brackets (not as superscripts)
  • References listed in 'References' section, in order of appearance in the text
  • References formatted according to instructions to authors

6. Tables

  • Tables numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals
  • Table number mentioned in the text in consecutive order, in parenthesis before the closing punctuation mark
  • No repetition of data in text, tables and graphs
  • Write the full term for each abbreviation used in the table as a footnote

7. Figure Legends

  • Figures mentioned in the text in consecutive order, in parenthesis before the closing punctuation mark
  • Figure legends typed on a separate page after references

CHECKLIST FOR FIGURES

  • Patient's privacy maintained in figures
  • At least 300 pixels per inch (ppi) for color or halftone figures and 1200 ppi if line art
  • File formats for figures: JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, GIF and PowerPoint

AFTER PEER REVIEW

  • Carefully read the peer reviewer's comments
  • Respond to reviewer's comments, point by point at the beginning of the manuscript file
  • Revise the manuscript file according to peer reviewer's comments
  • Highlight any changes made in the manuscript by underlining the text or by using text of different color
  • Submit online using the 'Submit Revision' page of the website
  • Submit by email to: Submit revision files as email attchments

AFTER ACCEPTANCE

  • Respond to Editorial comments, if any
  • Return corrected page proofs in the template sent, within 72 hours
  • Submit - Author Agreement Form, Patient's consent to publish identifying information (if identifying information revealed in the manuscript) and signed permission to reproduce published material (if required)
  • Make the payment of Article Publication Charges, as soon as the payment information is sent to you
  • A payment invoice will be sent to you. Keep it in a safe place for your records
  • Submit revisions and copyright forms online using the 'Submit Revision' and 'Submit All Forms' page of this website
  • Submit by email to: Submit copyright forms as email attachments
